Cara Louise, born Cara Louise Wegener, is a singer-songwriter from St. Louis, MO, now residing in Nashville, TN.  Louise's unique and soulful sound comes from her powerful and emotive vocal chops. Cara's extensive range, coupled with inspired melodies and honest, sincere, relatable lyricism, set her aside as a true force of nature. Major influences include 1960's pop, early 2000's indie-rock and Americana music.

From the time she could walk, Cara began singing and performing; from the living room to local talent shows and amateur musical theatre productions. Leonard Cohen, Carole King and Pink Floyd were among her first few musical influences. While finishing a creative writing degree at Webster University, she taught herself guitar as a means for songwriting, later cutting her teeth playing open mic nights, dive bars and honky tonks around St. Louis city.

In July 2013, she formed Cara Louise Band and self-released To Be Dead Is To Be Known recorded at Sherpa Studios. The six-song EP, inspired by 1960s Nashville, includes a Patsy Cline-esque ballad, a political satire, and a progressive title track about artistry and death. After briefly touring the Midwest, Cara Louise Band released their debut LP, Fire’s Out, through Gaslight Records in 2016.

Louise spent 2018/2019 working with producer David Beeman at Native Sound in St. Louis, MO. The outcome is her debut EP as Cara Louise titled Fragile Heart. The 5-song collection separates Louise from her past work with Cara Louise Band as she navigates a 1960s yé-yé-inspired production by introducing synthesizers, electronic drums, and ethereal sonic landscapes to her otherwise alt-country sound. The leading singles from the EP, Fragile Heart and Empty Promise, were pressed to vinyl and released via Soul Step Records in January of 2020.

The world shuttered in 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic dealt a massive blow to the arts and entertainment industry. While some saw this time as a setback, Cara decided to use the time off of touring to her advantage. Throughout 2020 and into 2021, Cara flexed her creative muscles, writing and producing a new LP, a 9-song collection,  aptly titled "Wholesome Dread". Louise's upcoming LP further pushes the envelope, blurring the lines of indie rock, folk, and Americana. Continuing her work with producer David Beeman, the two pulled inspiration from Lynchian-inspired dystopian doo-wop, the echoes of Laurel Canyon, and the atmospheric synth tones and driving guitars of early 90's indie rock. Louise's upcoming release will certainly redefine the songwriter's style and career, further separating her from her classic country roots, and launching her creative potential to new sonic heights.

Cara's latest effort "Wholesome Dread" is set to release September 2022 via Soul Step Records.
